The Legacy Dance Studio is nestled in the bustling community of Port Orange and gearing up for the incredible milestone of 10 years of business in Port Orange. As we begin open enrollment, it’s the perfect time to reflect on our journey through the years in our Port Orange dance studio spreading love and igniting passion for the art of dance.

Established a decade ago, we offer dance classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary styles. Over the years, the studio has become a second home to many, a place where dreams are nurtured, confidence is built, and friendships are formed. Beginning your dance journey at our Port Orange Dance Studio will start your dancer off on with a solid foundation in technique and fundamentals.

Ballet offers grace and precision through disciplined classwork and choreography. From our youngest 3-year-olds to our established and experienced dancers, ballet classes at Legacy cater to all skill levels and help foster the love of the art form.

Tap dance goes back in history as one the oldest forms of dance and truly is a timeless style even today. Students tap their way through routines, mastering intricate footwork and syncopated rhythms. This style also offers stability, stamina and ankle strength for healthy posture.

High-energy jazz is dynamic with expressive and athletic movements. From jazz fusion to Broadway jazz, our Port Orange Dance Studio offers classes that explore distinctive styles of jazz dance.

Hip-hop, with its urban groove and street-inspired moves, adds a modern edge to Legacy’s curriculum. Here, students not only learn the latest hip-hop trends but also delve into the roots of hip-hop grooves, bounces, and where the movements come from physically and musically.

Contemporary dance challenges the norms and explores the depths of human experience and storytelling. The movements are fluid and push the boundaries of choreography being an “in the now style.” If a studio is not offering contemporary dance for ages 8 and up – they are not current in today’s dance industry standards.

We are all very excited for our 10th Anniversary Season to kick off as we begin another chapter filled with new triumphs and memories waiting to be made. This year’s registration has been busier than ever and we can’t wait to be the Port Orange Dance Studio of our community.

For the students, it’s not just about learning dance steps; it’s about discovering their own potential, building resilience, and unleashing their inner artist. For the instructors, it’s not just about teaching technique; it’s about nurturing creativity, fostering camaraderie, and empowering the next generation of dancers.

We choose community over competition and strive to achieve a working environment that is positive and focuses on encouraging language, education, and our passion and dedication to dance.

Beyond the dance classes, competitions and performances, the true legacy of Legacy Dance Studio lies in the sense of community it has fostered over the years. It’s a place where friendships are forged, bonds are strengthened, and memories are created that will last a lifetime.

Excitement Builds for Spectacular Showcase: “Legends, Divas, and Superstars” Port Orange Dancers

Shannon Thomas grew up dancing since she was four years old. Performing and competing is where Shannon shined, winning top honors throughout the state of Florida for her solo and group performances. Shannon continued her dance education at the prestigious, Oklahoma City University for four years where she studied under Jo Rowan, Robert Reed, Tiffany Van Der Merwe, Kelli Rhodes Stevens, Kay Sandal, Patricia Oplotnik and more. She studied all forms of dance, acting and voice, performed with the American Spirit Dance Company and took classes in business, dance pedagogy and choreography.
She began working professionally while still at OCU as a dance captain and performer, dancing in trade shows, theme park reviews and other various productions. After moving back to Florida in 2008, Shannon performed as a guest dancer with Surfscape Contemporary Dance Theatre and other local arts events as a dancer.
Shannon has been teaching and choreographing for the past 15 years and has had immense success in the studio training dancers in an array of styles from ballet, jazz, contemporary to hip hop and tap. Her students have gone on to study dance, musical theater, acting, and entertainment business at schools such as University of Florida, University of Central Florida, Florida Southern College and Ball State to name a few. Her unique experience as an educated performer, instructor and choreographer is what makes Legacy dance training stand out.
Shannon is passionate about teaching the art of dance and encouraging her students to work toward being their personal best on and off the dance floor. Our dance classes are structured around discipline, integrity, respect and professionalism to maintain a high standard in technique, style and performance.
Shannon’s Choreography has been honored at numerous prestigious dance competitions around the state of Florida. Her Choreography can be seen on the competition stage, at the Civic Ballet’s Nutcracker and Embry Riddle Dancing Eagles to name a few. She takes pride in providing the most up to date and modern choreography to give her students an edge, without over doing trends and keeping the dances she creates age appropriate and unique.
Shannon is the director and award-winning choreographer of The Legacy Stars Competition Team. The Stars are a National Award-Winning Dance Team and Performance Company featuring invited Legacy Dancers that have been training toward team placement. The Stars are proud to perform at various events around the Port Orange and the Daytona Beach Community, including Relay for Life, Port Orange Family Days, Volusia County Dances, Junior League of Daytona, The Domestic Abuse Council, Cannon balls for Kayne and more.
