Madelynn Colburn

Madelynn Colburn, originally from Port Orange, Florida, has been dancing since she was three years old. Ms. Colburn graduated in May of 2019 from Florida Southern College, Lakeland with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography with a minor in Business Administration.

During her time at FSC, she danced in works by Jen Guy Metcalf, Kim Karpanty, Sharon Wong, Carol Erkes, Erin LaSala, Leah Pinder, Gerald Opdenaker, and Sarah Walston. Ms. Colburn is a recipient of the “Most Improved Dancer Award” and the “Rising Choreographer Award.” She has choreographed a few works during her time at FSC, Reasons, Reflex, and her senior BFA concert piece, Translucent. She also co-directed the senior BFA dance concert in the spring of 2019.

Ms. Colburn has the aspiration to perform, teach, and choreograph. Her life long dream is to own her own dance studio to further dance education to future generations.

Makena Mayfield

Makena Mayfield has danced for fifteen years and has enjoyed being actively involved in the dance community.  She has danced with Legacy for five years and has even competed as a Legacy Star.   Additionally, she has performed for the past nine years with the Civic Ballet of Volusia County in The Nutcracker and the annual Festival of Dance. Throughout her years at Legacy she has assisted  Shannon Thomas with teaching children ages three to ten. Makena is thrilled to be teaching for her 3rd year at Legacy!

Makena graduated with her Associate of Arts degree from Daytona State in Spring 2021. She was an active member of the Daytona State TRiO Program where she participated in several cultural enrichment events throughout the year. Makena will be attending Stetson University in their Honors Program in pursuit of her Bachelors Degree, which will allow her to pursue her dream of opening a unique fitness studio of her own.

Skylar Carn

Skylar Carn has been dancing for 5 years at Legacy! She has studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary and pointe, as well as been on the Legacy Stars Competitive team for 4 years. While on Stars, Skylar has taken home many top overall awards, scholarships and special awards with her team and as a soloist.

Skylar has been in the classroom assisting Mrs. Shannon during her 5 years at Legacy and she is great with children of all ages. She is not only a very talented dancer on stage, she is a great teacher in the classroom.

Skylar is a Professional Dancer and Performer at SeaWorld Orlando and a Dancer for AM Talent Agency out of Orlando. She can be seen modeling for Michelle and Group Models all over the state of Florida in photo shoots and commercials as well.

This is her 2nd year teaching at Legacy and Assisting our Legacy Stars Competition Team. She is excited for another fun year dancing with our amazing students!

Ava Chappell

Ava Chappell

Ava Chappell is a Florida based choreographer and dancer. She is known for her unique contemporary choreography, improvisation and positive spirit in the classroom. Ava has been teaching at The Legacy Dance Studio for 2 years and enjoys guest teaching in Orlando at various studios sharing her joy and passion for dance. She is currently choreographing for the Legacy Stars Competitive team and looking to branch her amazing choreography skills to studios throughout Florida.

Ava can be seen dancing in various projects throughout the state of Florida, including videos with artists such as Struther White and Phoenix Collab to name a few. Ava can be sean training at Underground Movement, Motiv, and Orlando Ballet. She has received many choreography awards, overall scores, and scholarships from the many workshops and conventions she attends to continue her training such as Nuvo Standout Artist, Ash Apprentice, AMDA Scholarships and more!

Ava is excited to work on her professional career as she works towards gaining an agency and the many opportunities in the dance community.
