Madelynn Colburn, originally from Port Orange, Florida, has been dancing since she was three years old. Ms. Colburn graduated in May of 2019 from Florida Southern College, Lakeland with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography with a minor in Business Administration.
During her time at FSC, she danced in works by Jen Guy Metcalf, Kim Karpanty, Sharon Wong, Carol Erkes, Erin LaSala, Leah Pinder, Gerald Opdenaker, and Sarah Walston. Ms. Colburn is a recipient of the “Most Improved Dancer Award” and the “Rising Choreographer Award.” She has choreographed a few works during her time at FSC, Reasons, Reflex, and her senior BFA concert piece, Translucent. She also co-directed the senior BFA dance concert in the spring of 2019.
Ms. Colburn has the aspiration to perform, teach, and choreograph. Her life long dream is to own her own dance studio to further dance education to future generations.
Makena Mayfield has danced for fifteen years and has enjoyed being actively involved in the dance community. She has danced with Legacy for five years and has even competed as a Legacy Star. Additionally, she has performed for the past nine years with the Civic Ballet of Volusia County in The Nutcracker and the annual Festival of Dance. Throughout her years at Legacy she has assisted Shannon Thomas with teaching children ages three to ten.
Makena is currently a sophomore in the Daytona State Quanta Honors program and will graduate with an Associate of Arts Degree in 2021. In addition, she is an active member of the Daytona State TRiO Program where she participates in several cultural enrichment events throughout the year. Makena plans to transfer to the University of South Florida to earn a degree in kinesiology, which will allow her to pursue her dream of opening a unique fitness studio of her own.
Alyssa Lang has been dancing for 18 years. She started her dance career dancing at the Volusia Academy of Ballet at age 3 but moved to North Carolina at age 10 and continued dancing with Spotlight Dance Company (formally known as Donnas Dancers). There at the studio, she took Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Musical Theatre. While with Spotlight, she has worked with Dancers Against Cancer for two years, performed with the Harlem Globetrotters halftime show for four years, performed in three musicals, was a lead for a ballet (Moana), performed with the Moscow Ballet for four years with two years as the host studio. Alyssa taught many dance classes including Lyrical, Jazz, and from time Musical theatre for about three years.
In 2014 she performed on a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship, Enchantment Of the Seas, and in 2016 she performed on the Walt Disney Stage in Orlando, Florida. While taking a workshop with Disney, she was offered a spot to train with cast members. In 2017 Alyssa choreographed a first place overall duet at nationals which also won a dedication award. Later in 2018, she won first place overall at regionals with her trio choreography. She has competed in numerous dance competitions and has won scholarships, overall awards, and judges awards.
Last December Alyssa returned to working with Walt Disney World Orlando to put together a 30-minute show with a cast of over 25 members. Putting together a total of six dances, music, transportation, and hotels while still being a full-time student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Alyssa is so excited to continue sharing her passion for dance while meeting so many fantastic dancers!
Skylar Carn has been dancing for 5 years at Legacy! She has studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary and pointe, as well as been on the Legacy Stars Competitive team for 4 years. While on Stars, Skylar has taken home many top overall awards, scholarships and special awards with her team and as a soloist.
Skylar has been in the classroom assisting Mrs. Shannon during her 5 years at Legacy and she is great with children of all ages. She is not only a very talented dancer on stage, she is a great teacher in the classroom.
Skylar has trained with Pilobolus Dance Company and performed in their summer showcase with dancers from the state of Florida. She has also attended Commercial Dance Intensive and was awarded scholarships through that program as well.
Skylar can be seen modeling for local clothing brands and photographers and is working toward her dance and modeling career. She will also be Assistant Rehearsal Director to the Legacy Stars this year. Skylar is excited to begin her next chapter at Legacy and work with amazing dancers and families!
