Mission Statement
At Legacy Dance Studio our program is designed for your dancer to grow individually. We are dedicated to offering classes with a high standard of technique, style and performance. Through discipline, encouragement and hard work, excellence can be achieved by gradually increasing subjects studied and expanding performance opportunities for our students. In order to accomplish these goals, core values in integrity, respect, responsibility, character and professionalism must be maintained.
Teaching Philosophy
It is the philosophy of Legacy Dance Studio to embrace movers at all levels and ages. Our intention is to create a structured, loving, creative environment where students are inspired to express themselves through the art of dance. We use a process oriented curriculum that builds upon the foundations of ballet, tap and jazz dance to create a safe, strong foundation for our students to flourish as they grow and discover their inner dancer. Dance education goes further than just the dance steps, at Legacy students will learn proper body alignment, technique, terminology, and the basic fundamentals needed to pursue dancing in college or professionally.

All Legacy Parents will have an online account through Dance Studio Pro. Please expect to receive emails, texts and phone calls through this account. Please login in frequently to stay up to date on the latest information.

Dress Code
Each child must have his/her dance shoes at each practice.
Dance shoes should not be worn outside and street shoes are not to be worn on the studio floors. Please take off your street shoes before walking into the studio.
Any jewelry or extra accessories should be left at home and are not permitted in class.
Please put your name on all articles of clothing and shoes. The Legacy Dance Studio is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
Attendance Policy
At The Legacy Dance Studio, consistent attendance is essential for students to reach their full potential. We expect all students to attend regularly and arrive 10 minutes prior to their scheduled class time to ensure they are prepared. If a student must miss a class, please notify the studio in advance.
Important Note: Poor attendance may result in dismissal from performances at the instructor’s discretion. There are no credits or refunds for missed classes.
Absences and Refund Policy
Acceptable Absence Reasons:
- Illness, injury, or family emergency that extends beyond two weeks.
- Reimbursements or refunds will only be considered if makeup class options of equal value are not provided by the studio.
- Absences for events, minor sicknesses, or other non-emergency reasons are not eligible for makeup classes, credits, or refunds.
- These policies are designed to maintain a high standard of commitment and preparation for all students. If you have any questions, please contact the studio for clarification. Thank you for your understanding!
Additional Policies for Parents and Dancers
- Arrive no more than 5 minutes before your scheduled class.
- Pick up your child promptly after class.
- Arrive dressed and ready to dance. If coming from school, change quickly.
- Follow the studio’s dress code, with hair styled appropriately and labeled dance shoes.
- Bring a water bottle; no food is allowed unless your dancer will be present for 4 or more hours.
Class Cancellations
IMPORTANT: We do not automatically cancel dance classes if there is no school, please refer to our monthly calendar.
The Legacy Dance Studio Payment Installment Reimbursements are only available if 2 or more classes in a month are cancelled and make up classes are not offered live or through ZOOM Live Stream or Pre-recorded YouTube Videos.
- This refund policy DOES NOT include closures due to weather or other unanticipated closures due to circumstances out of The Legacy Dance Studio’s Control (weather/natural disaster/unnatural disaster/act of God).
- This refund policy DOES NOT include Local, State or Federal Mandated Closures.
- This refund policy DOES NOT include refusal to attend makeup classes offered.
- This refund policy DOES NOT include withdrawal from classes because they are online. With Virtual Options available – All reasonable steps will be taken by The Legacy Dance Studio to continue to offer classes, no matter the circumstances of the situation.
Updated Lobby Policies and Zoom
Dancer Drop-Off and Pick-Up Guidelines
- Drop-Off: Please drop off dancers no more than 5 minutes before their scheduled class time. Ensure they arrive prepared with the correct hair, shoes, and uniform.
- Changing After School: Students are permitted to use the facilities to change and get ready after school.
- Pick-Up: Dancers must be picked up promptly after class. Parents should wait outside the studio building for their child.
- Supervision: Dancers are expected to wait inside the building until their ride arrives.
- Late Pick-Up: Consistently late pick-ups may result in a fee at the discretion of the owner.
Lobby Updates: We’ve updated our lobby policies to better serve our dancers and families. The Parent Lobby Section is now limited to brief visits for specific purposes only. These changes are designed for safety and to create a focused and efficient environment for everyone.
Parent Guidelines for Lobby Use:
- Lobby Access: The Parent Section is open to one parent per dancer and only for drop-off, pick-up, or to make cash or check payments. Seating is limited is now limited to brief visits for specific purposes only, and no food or drinks are permitted in the Parent Lobby.
- Restroom: Open for use for parents and families.
- Lobby and Studio: Parents are not permitted hang out in the Lobby or enter the Dance Studios. This is with the exception of the restroom and if our 3-4 year old dancers needs assistance with the restroom. Our teachers and assistants will handle shoe changes and ensure dancers are prepared for class.

Zoom Guidelines
We understand the importance of keeping parents connected to their child’s learning experience. To support this, we offer Zoom links exclusively for parents of dancers aged 3-4 and 5-7 years old. This allows parents to observe their child’s class virtually when needed.
- Access for Classes of Ages 3-4 and 5-7 Only: Zoom links are available exclusively for parents of children in these age groups.
- Joining Zoom: Please log in at the start of class to avoid delays. Late entries may need to wait until the instructor has time to admit participants.
- Not a Substitute: Zoom is intended as a viewing option for parents and is not a replacement for regular in-person attendance by the student.
These policies are designed to provide a balance of parent involvement while maintaining a focused and productive environment for all students. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Withdraw from Classes
To withdrawal from class, please notify Shannon Thomas through email at shannon@thelegacydancestudio.com to stop invoices and charges on your account and Autopay. If you do not notify us, your dancer will not be withdrawn from the class and your account will not be cancelled .
If a Legacy family decides to withdraw their student from any and all classes for any reason other than a qualified medical or family life change, any balances past due or any installment payments missed, even while inactive, would need to be paid in full to return and participate in the end of year Showcase or Re-register in the Fall.
Examples:
Medical – Note from Dr. that dancer cannot participate or hospitalization for medical problems
Life Change- Loss of job, family status change, death of a family member

Studio Etiquette and Expectations
At Legacy Dance Studio, we strive to create a welcoming, respectful, and focused environment for all dancers. To ensure everyone has the best experience, please keep the following in mind:
- Come Prepared to Shine: Arrive ready for class with the proper hair, shoes, and uniform. Being prepared sets the stage for a great lesson!
- Studio-Only Items: Keep gum, food, and drinks outside the studio to maintain a clean and safe space for dancing. Only water may be brought into the studio.
- Respect Our Studio Space: Help us keep the studio neat and tidy by disposing of any trash properly.
- Stay Safe Before and After Class: Wait outside the studio until your class begins, and head outside promptly after class to meet your parent or guardian.
- Focus Fully on Dance: Keep cell phones tucked away during class time to stay in the moment and maximize your learning.
- Practice Respect: Show kindness and respect to yourself, your classmates, and your instructors. Together, we create an uplifting and encouraging atmosphere.
- Personal Space Matters: Maintain personal space during class, unless part of an instructed movement or exercise.
- Bring Your Best Attitude: Approach every class with positivity and a willingness to learn and work as a team.
- Stay Engaged: Avoid whispering during class so everyone can stay focused and enjoy the session.
- Kindness Always: Bullying is never tolerated. We celebrate inclusivity and support for every dancer.
- Commit to Growth: Weekly attendance is vital for steady improvement and building your skills. We love seeing your dedication!
- Dress for Success: Wearing the correct dress code shoes and uniform ensures you're ready to move confidently and comfortably.

- Supporting Every Dancer: If your child is experiencing challenges, let us know. Together, we can ensure they feel supported and confident, because every dancer matters in our Legacy community.
- Plan for Absences: If your child needs to miss class or leave early, a quick call in advance is greatly appreciated. It helps us stay organized and ensures no one misses important updates.
- Timely Payments Help the Team: Staying up-to-date on monthly installments and fees enables us to provide high-quality instruction, costumes, and opportunities for every dancer to succeed.
- Share Our Studio Values: Take time to review studio policies with your child. Understanding expectations together reinforces our values of teamwork, responsibility, and respect.
- Community Over Competition: We encourage parents and dancers to celebrate one another’s progress and accomplishments. At Legacy, we’re all on the same team, working to bring out the best in ourselves and each other.
- Create a Focused Learning Space: To help dancers stay engaged and immersed, parents are asked to remain outside the dance studios unless invited by Mrs. Shannon for special events. Your support from the sidelines inspires your dancer to shine.

2024-2025
- August 1st: Payment Installment 1 (includes registration fee and 1st month’s tuition)
- September 1st: Payment Installment 2

- October 1st: Costume deposit posted to online accounts ($100 per costume)
- October 10th: Costume deposits due ($100 per costume)
- October 25th: Costume deposits increase to $125 after this date

- April TBA: Showcase tickets go on sale (online only)
- May TBA: Additional showcase tickets on sale (online only)
- June 6th & 7th, 2025: Annual Showcase at the News Journal Center (subject to change)
Core Values
- Positivity – Students are encouraged and built up in a safe environment to promote confidence. Students are physically, mentally and emotionally stimulated so that they can commit themselves to being the best dancer that they can be.
- Leading – We value teamwork, respect commitment to excellence, and lead by example. We believe that hard work is worth it, and winning isn’t everything.
- Integrity – We ensure age-appropriate music, choreography and costumes for each age group. Every student has worth and is unique , and they are empowered to feel free to express themselves with support from their peers, teachers and parents.
- Educating – Lifelong learning is essential for both students as well as instructors. We also use correct terminology for all age levels and are passionate about teaching proper technique and progressions.
Before you speak or text ask yourself if what you are going to say is true, is kind, is necessary, is helpful.
We believe that the atmosphere we create in the studio for our dance family (our culture) is every bit as important as the education our students receive. We are focused on teaching the whole student; giving our dancers life skills such as dedication, determination and perseverance that will help them to succeed now, and for the rest of their lives!

Continuing to attend The Legacy Dance Studio Classes, Events, Functions, or Performances is binding acceptance of these terms.
The Legacy Dance Studio reserves the right to refuse service to any client for any reason that doesn’t comply with our standards of business. This policy includes but is not limited to verbal abuse, social media or online reviews, breaking any rules or guidelines put in place, not paying on time, bullying or any other behavior we deem unsafe or inappropriate for a children’s dance studio.
